Retailer Spotlight

SIM-freePAYGcontract

The Carphone Warehouse was founded in 1989 to bring mobile services to consumers. Their aim from the very beginning has been to offer customers simple, impartial advice while also offering outstanding value. As a result they have grown from a handful of stores operating exclusively in the UK selling mobile handsets and contracts, to Europe's leading independent retailer of mobile phones and services, with over 2,000 stores in 10 countries.

Breaking News (October 2007): Carphone Warehouse have just launched a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) called Talk Mobile. This service piggy backs on the Vodafone network and is aimed at low-spend contract users who don't want long contracts. Line rental starts from as little as £12 per month. For now at least, Talk Mobile contracts will only be sold via the Carphone Warehouse Website. More details can be found here.

Nokia Eyes The Laptop Market

Not content with ruling the mobile phone market, it seems Nokia has set its world-conquering eye on the cut-throat laptop arena. It certainly seems like a strange move but when you have Nokia's clout, it's no idle threat, especially when it's the CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo talking. Speaking to Finnish national broadcaster YLE yesterday, Kallasvuo said: "We are looking very actively also at this opportunity. We don't have to look even for five years from now to see that what we know as a mobile phone and what we know as a PC are in many ways converging. Today we have hundreds of millions of people who are having their first Internet experience on the phone. This is a good indication." The photo above shows Nokia's new concept mini computer device, codenamed Sparrow, due in 2011.
